Common questions
Pricing, Straight Up
Do prices change once the job is underway?
No. Once you sign off on the quote, that's the figure on the invoice, no matter how long the work takes on our end. The only exception is something nobody could see coming inside a wall or the board, and nothing changes until you agree to the new number.
Is there a call-out fee just to get a quote?
There's no call-out fee for a quote, and no cost to you if you decide not to proceed once you've seen the number. We'd rather you have the full price in front of you than feel pressured into a job on the spot.
What exactly does the $50 off first service cover?
It comes straight off the invoice on your first booking, no matter the size of the job, from one extra outlet to a full board replacement. There's no minimum spend and nothing held back in fine print.
How do I pay once the work's done?
Whatever's easiest for you, and we'll settle on the details when the fixed price is agreed, well before anyone picks up a tool. There's nothing to sort out once the job's finished that you haven't already seen coming.
Common questions
The Legal Stuff, Made Simple
Can I legally do my own electrical work in NSW?
No, not beyond a small handful of minor exceptions that most people never actually run into. Anything touching the switchboard, fixed wiring or a permanent power point is licensed electrical work under NSW law, full stop.
What is AS/NZS 3000, and does it matter to me?
It matters because it's the difference between work that's genuinely safe and insurable and work that only looks finished. AS/NZS 3000 is the national wiring standard, and every job we hand back to you is built to meet it, right down to how the switchboard is laid out.
Do I need a safety switch, and what does it actually do?
Almost certainly yes, if your home doesn't already have one fitted to every circuit. It reacts in a fraction of a second the moment current starts escaping the circuit it should be confined to, which is exactly what stops a shock turning serious.
Common questions
How Fast We Get to You
How do I actually book a job in?
Ring (02) 9538 7444 and tell us what's happening, whether that's a scheduled job or something that needs sorting sooner. We'll talk through the details and lock in a time that works from there.
How fast can someone get to my place?
Often same or next day for a standard booking, sometimes sooner depending on what's already on the schedule. Flag it as urgent on the phone, and it moves ahead of the ordinary queue rather than waiting its turn.
How soon can you actually fit me into the schedule?
Sooner than most people expect, usually. We deliberately keep room in the schedule for jobs that come in mid-week rather than filling every slot with bookings made far in advance.
Do you take on work outside normal business hours?
Weekdays cover the bulk of our standard bookings, and genuine electrical emergencies are handled outside of that, day or night. If your timing's tight either way, flag it on the phone and we'll be upfront about what's realistic.
Common questions
Local to Ashfield
Which suburbs do you actually cover from Ashfield?
Ashfield itself, plus the surrounding Inner West suburbs of Summer Hill, Croydon, Haberfield, Dulwich Hill, Lewisham and Petersham. If your address sits just outside that list, ask when you call, since we can often still help.
How local are you, really?
Genuinely local. We're regularly working in and around Ashfield's streets rather than dispatching a van across Sydney for every single booking, which is exactly what lets us quote realistic timing instead of a guess.
Do you work on heritage or strata properties in Ashfield?
Yes, both come up regularly given how much of the suburb is strata-titled or heritage-influenced. Getting sign-off from a strata committee or working carefully around a heritage-sensitive property is a normal part of the job for us, not a special case that slows things down.
Why do so many older Ashfield homes need a switchboard upgrade?
A large share of the suburb's older housing stock, cottages and walk-up flats alike, still runs the original ceramic-fuse switchboards fitted decades ago. Those boards simply weren't sized for how much a modern household draws, which is why fuses blow and breakers trip more often here than they would on an updated board.
